Maldives Significantly Reduces Union Registration Fees

The Maldives government has drastically lowered fees for union registration, amending the initial regulations formulated under the Industrial Relations Act. This move addresses concerns about the previous fees, which some considered prohibitively high.

New Registration Fees:

  • Workplace union: MVR 500

  • Industry workers union: MVR 1,000

  • Employers' union: MVR 1,500

  • Merger of two or more unions: MVR 1,000

  • Workers' federation: MVR 2,500 (previously MVR 10,000)

  • Employers' federation: MVR 2,500

  • National Union Centre: MVR 5,000 (previously MVR 15,000)

  • National employees' union: MVR 5,000 (previously MVR 15,000)
