Maldives-India Cargo Ferry Service Kicks Off

The launching ceremony of the Maldives-India cargo ferry service was officiated by Ms. Aishath Nahula, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation for the Maldives and Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Shipping for India.The cargo ferry service is an important instrument for the economical development in the northern atolls of Maldives and strengthens the trading relationship between both countries. Mr. Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of Tourism for the Maldives has also stated that this service has 'great potential for tourism and trade'.The first cargo ferry started its journey from India earlier this week and is expected to arrive to Male' on 28 September 2020 after making a stop in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi on 26 September 2020. The boat can carry cargo worth 3000 metric ton.
