Maldives Airport Taxes and Fees Increase

Effective December 1st, 2024, the Maldives has implemented increased airport taxes and fees for passengers arriving and departing from any airport in the country. This is due to the second amendment to the Airport Taxes and Fees Act (22/2024).

Departure Tax

This tax applies to all departing passengers and varies based on travel class. It is collected in addition to any existing airline fees or taxes at the time of ticket purchase.

 New Departure Tax Rates:

  • Economy Class: Increased from USD 30 to USD 50

  • Business Class: Increased from USD 60 to USD 120

  • First Class: Increased from USD 90 to USD 240

  • Private Jet: Increased from USD 120 to USD 480

Airport Development Fee (ADF)

This fee applies to all departing passengers and is used to fund airport infrastructure development.

 New ADF Rates:

  • Economy Class: Increased from USD 30 to USD 50 for foreign passengers. No change for Maldivian nationals.

  • Business Class: Increased from USD 60 to USD 120 for foreign passengers.

  • First Class: Increased from USD 90 to USD 240 for foreign passengers.

  • Private Jet: Increased from USD 120 to USD 480 for foreign passengers.

Maldivian passengers traveling in Business, First Class, and Private Jets will also see an increase in their ADF.

Exemptions: Passengers with diplomatic immunity, transit passengers, and children under 2 years old are exempt from these taxes and fees.

If you believe you were overcharged, you can apply for a refund through the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). The recent amendment to the Act includes provisions for reclaiming any excess or incorrectly collected airport taxes and fees.
