Guesthouses Reopen In the Maldives

After a 7 month long shutdown, guesthouses in the Maldives have finally started to reopen on 15 October 2020. The government decided to reopen guesthouses 3 months after the Maldives reopened its borders on 15 July 2020.Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has stated that a total of 22 guesthouses have submitted their Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), made in compliance with the safety guideline published by the Ministry. Out of these, 16 guesthouses from a total of 9 islands have been granted permission to reopen so far.For permission to be granted, guesthouses are required to fulfill a strict criteria, ensuring the safety of the locals on the islands with local tourism.
