Gov’t to Introduce Commercial Dredging Fee

The Maldives government is set to impose a $2 dredging fee for commercial sites starting January 25th, 2025. The fee aims to encourage businesses to adopt environmentally sustainable practices and is expected to yield MVR 260 million annually. The government is also implementing additional fiscal measures, such as a shift in the Goods and Services Tax to a destination principle system and hikes in airport development charges and green tax.
